Burns Supper

RobertBurns.jpgI went to the Renfrew Golf Club annual Burns supper last night. It was excellent this year, the immortal memory was done by Joe Kennedy, a past president of the Ayrshire Association of Burns Clubs and he was the best I've seen. Les Kirk was back to do 'Holy Willie's Prayer' and 'Tam O' Shanter' and again was excellent. It always impresses me how he can all 20 verses like that, I did a word count this morning, there are 1512 words and 228 lines! I'll need to make a journey out to the Burns museum in Alloway sometime soon. Next year should be a good one as it will be the 250th anniversary of Burn's birth and the 50th night at Renfrew. I downloaded the album 'Eddi Reader Sings the Songs of Robert Burns' this morning to listen to 'John Anderson My Jo' which was mentioned last night and is a lovely song -

John Anderson my jo, John,
When we were first aquent,
Your locks were like the raven,
Your bonnie brow was brent;
But now your brow is bald, John,
Your locks are like the snaw,
But blessings on your frosty pow,
John Anderson, my jo.

John Anderson my jo, John,
We clamb the hill thegither,
And mony a canty day, John,
We've had wi ane anither;
Now we maun totter down, John,
But hand in hand we'll go,
And sleep thegither at the foot,
John Anderson, my jo.
